Antarctica has the highest density of 138 volcanoes with the largest volcano system of 91 large and small volcanoes along the West Antarctic Rift System. The volcano system occupies 3.5km under the ice sheet between Ross Ice Shelf and the Antarctic peninsula.

Geological experts predict to find the densest region of volcanoes in Antarctica. The largest number of volcanoes is found in Africa. The majority of 450 volcanoes are located on the intersecting tectonic plates of the "Ring of Fire".

Antarctica has 4 active volcanoes, Mount Erebus, Mount Siple, Deception Island and Bristol Island. Mount Erebus is the highest and most active stratospheric volcano with a boiling lava lake.
